Early Start

Early Start is a free pre-school programme for children from our locality who will continue their schooling in St. Brigid’s Infant School, Finglas. New Department of Education guidelines state that the children must be aged more than 3 years 2 months and less than 4 years 7 months on the 1st day of September of the year in which they are enrolled.

Early Start is a play-based programme through which children are actively learning in an age-appropriate setting. We have two Early Start rooms in our school, Room 8 and Room 10. Each classroom is staffed by two teaching adults (1 primary school teacher and 1 childcare worker) which gives children a great opportunity for one-to-one contact.  We aim to develop children’s language, cognitive, emotional and social skills so that they will reach Junior Infants as competent, confident learners. We incorporate lots of outdoor learning, when the weather permits. We have a secure outdoor play area and lots of fun outdoor equipment that we use regularly.

Parents are welcomed and encouraged to take part in activities during the school year e.g. classroom visits, playdough making, posting Christmas letters, assisting with the book library and accompanying your child on a summer trip.

There are two sessions per day in each of the rooms. A morning group from 9am to 11.20am and an afternoon group from 12.00pm to 2.20pm.

Enrolment forms for Early Start are available on the website under policies and forms or from Jackie in the office.
